How to Become an Electrician in New Mexico
In order to work as an electrician in New Mexico you must get licensed and to do that you must first become eligible to apply for the licenses. The following is an overview of the process of becoming an electrician in New Mexico.
To become an electrician in New Mexico you should first get a high school diploma or the equivalent of a GED and be at least 18 years of age. Then you must become a part of an apprenticeship and/or enroll in an electrician training school or take online classes of relevant courses. This is important so that you can develop your skills and learn from experienced professionals, which will help you succeed later in your career as an electrician. You can also become familiar with the National Electric code or NEC during this time and this is important since you will have to follow this code throughout your career. You will also need to supply your own tools for your apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship is usually four years long and you can contact a number of organizations such as The New Mexico Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC), Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and Northern New Mexico Independent Electrical Contractors, Inc. to help you get an apprenticeship. Additionally many also provide electrical apprenticeships so you can get in touch with them too.
The next step is to get a license so that you can work as an electrician in New Mexico. You can get either an Electrical Contractor license or a Journeyman License in this state. The New Mexico Electrical Bureau grants these licenses and the examinations are conducted by the Psychological Services Inc. (PSI).

To apply for the license you must submit an application, a certificate and the license fee. Once your application is approved, you must pass an exam by getting a score of at least 75% to get your license. The license must be renewed every three years, which can be done by giving the relevant renewal application.

If you meet the requirements, you must submit an application and if it gets approved then you must pass the relevant exams to acquire your license. This license needs to be renewed every three years and you must complete a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education approved course work to get your renewal.
