Since Indiana does not have a statewide electrician license the requirements are different in each county and state. Therefore, it is advised that you contact the local town or county where you want to work and ask them for the specific requirements as imposed by the municipality. Within each of these areas the Indiana Department of Fire and Building Safety sets the rules for becoming an electrician.

While some states might ask for work experience under the supervision of a licensed electrician, others might just ask you to take the NEC code exam. Additionally, Indiana does not have reciprocity agreements with any state unfortunately.

Once you get your license you can legally work as an electrician in that particular county or state.
